Biography:
Chris is an exciting forward brimful of potential who has come a long way
since representing Wigan amateurs New Springs.
His rise through the Coliseum ranks was nothing short of phenomenal. From
his debut for the Junior Academy in 2004, Hill was often one of the better
players in a team that struggled at times. During two seasons in the Junior
Academy, Hill played in all forward positions except hooker and even
appeared out in the centres.
In 2005 Chris also played in several Under-21 games split between second row
and centre before agreeing a full-time contract.
After the resignation of Darren Abram, Hill was promoted to the first team
and made his debut in an ill fated home encounter with St Helens. The Saints
ran white hot that day, scoring a 78-4 success and Hill played around 25
minutes of the game.
At 6'3 and around 17 stone in weight, Chris adds presence to the Leigh
ranks. He also adds intelligent running coupled with fine footwork, good
defence and a solid work ethic. All of which marks him out as one to watch.
Last term he also proved durable, appearing in 29 of the club's 30 games. He
also showed an eye for the try-line, crossing for 12 tries, including a
personal hat-trick in a 52-12 win over Oldham at Boundary Park.
More often than not, Chris was amongst the best performers in the team,
quietly and effectively going about his defensive duties before coming into
his own when taking the ball in.
His development was rewarded with a place
in the England Academy team that took on the omnipotent Australian
Schoolboys. Chris played from the bench in a 36-22 defeat at Odsal and if he
continues to prosper, do not discount a full Great Britain cap in future.
Hill's outstanding form was rewarded with a fulltime contract and towards
the end of last season, Chris agreed a further long term deal to remain with
the club.
